Looking Back on 2025: A Summer That Took Us Far and Wide

Looking back on 2025, it’s fair to say it was a year that many caravanners, motorhome and campervan owners won’t forget in a hurry.

If you travelled this summer, the chances are the weather played a big part in your plans, sometimes in ways you expected, and sometimes very much not.

A Summer That Turned Up the Heat

Across Europe, the summer of 2025 brought some extraordinary conditions. June arrived with record-breaking heat in parts of Western Europe. Temperatures climbed well above what many were used to, with “feels-like” temperatures pushing past 38°C and in places like Portugal, reaching close to 48°C.

For some, it was simply too hot. Campsites struggled, plans changed, and a few travellers decided it was time to move on sooner than expected.

For others? It was exactly what they’d been hoping for.

July continued in much the same way, especially across Southern Europe. Italy and Greece saw temperatures well into the mid-40s, and long, sun-soaked days became the norm. Some stayed put, settled into the rhythm of early mornings, long siestas, and evenings outside once the heat softened.

Then August surprised many of us.

As temperatures eased in the south, the heat shifted north. Parts of Norway, Sweden, and Finland experienced an intense two-week heatwave, with temperatures over 30°C lasting far longer than usual. For those who headed north looking for cooler air, it was a reminder that even the best-laid plans can change.

Did the Weather Change Your Plans?

For many travellers, the summer weather shaped decisions in real time.

Did you:

  • Stay longer in the sun because conditions felt perfect?
  • Move on earlier than planned because the heat became too much?
  • Head north or towards the coast in search of cooler evenings?
  • Or adapt your routine — travelling early, resting during the hottest hours, and enjoying nights outdoors?

There was no single way to travel this summer and that was part of what made it memorable.

Where Did 2025 Take You?

Looking back now, beyond the temperatures and destinations, it’s often the small moments that stand out most. A quiet campsite after a long, hot day. An unexpected change of route. A place you hadn’t planned to stop, but stayed longer than expected.

So we’d love to know:

What did you do this summer?

Did the heat change your plans, or make the journey even better?
